| Returning Home Following Your Hospital Stay
You will be discharged from the Hospital as soon as your healthcare team decides that you are medically stable.
| Discharge time is 10:00am. |
If you have been discharged and are waiting for family members to arrive, you may be asked to move to a lounge while you wait.
If you have had surgery, as a general rule:
Keep your incision clean and dry
Eat a healthy diet that includes fruits and vegetables
Drink plenty of fluids (6 – 8 glasses of water daily) unless you are on diuretics or have Congestive Heart Failure. Check with your doctor.
Take all medications as instructed
If you have special needs and will require home support following your surgery, we urge you to consider options for alternative care before coming to hospital. If you are not able to return home and need to be discharged to another facility, ask your healthcare team to help you select the most appropriate place to provide care.
Please make sure that you have all your belongings, as well as all your aftercare instructions, prescriptions and follow-up appointments arranged.
For more information about the hospital's discharge policies, please speak with your nurse or social worker.
Please make sure your account is settled before you leave.
