Bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy allows a doctor to examine inside one’s airway for any abnormality such as foreign objects, tumors or inflammation.
Before the procedure:
Do not eat or drink anything 6 to 12 hours before the test.
You may be sleepy after the test, so you should arrange for transportation to and from the hospital.
Many people want to rest the following day, so make arrangements for work, child care or other obligations.
After the procedure:
You may experience throat irritation and dry cough for several hours.
There may be a small amount of blood in the sputum. Report if any excessive bleeding occurs.
No food or fluids for 1 to 2 hours following the procedure. Start with fluids and progress to solid food if no difficulty swallowing.
Avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours following anaesthetic.
Extra rest is recommended on the day of your procedure, but moderate activity is beneficial to stimulate circulation.
