Hip Replacement
Hip replacement is a medical procedure where the hip joint is replaced by a synthetic implant.
Before the procedure:
Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before the surgery.
You will be instructed on what pills to take with a sip of water on the morning of the surgery and which to bring with you to the hospital.
You can expect to be in the hospital for 4 days. Arrange for support and transportation once you are able to go home.
A consultation with a nurse will be done when you arrive at the Pre- Admission Clinic.
Blood tests will be taken.
After the procedure and during recovery:
An x-ray will be taken.
Bed rest is required after your surgery, but you will have assistance sitting up in a chair.
Medication will be given as required or needed.
Blood tests will be taken.
You will be aided when walking until you are able to walk on your own.
Nurses will educate you on the precautions and procedures of getting up and moving around at home.
