As the regional provider of cardiac catheterization, neurosurgery and trauma, as well as being designated the District Stroke Centre, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital’s Cardiac Care Program is responsible for providing immediate care for patients at risk of heart attack.
Currently, the Cardiac Care Program includes a 9 bed Coronary Care Unit (CCU), a 24 bed cardiac step down unit and a Cardiac Catheterization Lab. The program also provides extensive cardiac diagnostic services including: Electrocardiogram, Echocardiogram, Holter Monitoring and Stress Testing, Pacemaker assessment Clinic and Urgent Cath consultation clinic. The Pacemaker Clinic monitors and maintains many implantable devices including implantable cardiac defibrillators and services Windsor, Essex, and Lambton Counties.
The historic first stand alone angioplasty procedure was performed at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital in May/07 by Dr. Rajendra Chetty under the supervision of London Health Sciences Centre’s Dr. Bill Kostuk. In March/08, Dr. Amr Morsi joined the HDGH team as the new Medical Director of our Cath Lab. At least two more intraventical cardiologists will be needed to perform 600 or more procedures annually once our Centre is fully operational.
As a result, HDGH is now able to provide angioplasty to the residents of Windsor/Essex County and surrounding communities and we look forward to reducing or eliminating the previous need for over 500 local patients per year traveling to others centres including London and Toronto to receive this life-saving procedure.
Our Cardiac Catheterization Lab also performs over 1700 Coronary Angiograms a year and has been highlighted by the Cardiac Care Network as a best practice centre in the province.
