Local family remains dedicated to increasing
Organ Donation Awareness, hard work pasys off
Gunther and Judy Funkenhauser have reason to be joyful this holiday season, the local registration rate for Organ and Tissue donation has increased by four per cent from last year. This improvement follows an awareness campaign launched in the spring of 2013 centred around a promotional video funded by the Funkenhauser's annual Day For A Life golf tournament held in honour of the son, Trevor.
Earlier this year, the Windsor-Essex region had one of the lowest donor registration rates in the County. Today, with the dedication of the Funkenhauser's this is improving. The Town of Essex experienced the third highest growth for municipalities in teh Province with a five per cent increase.
Funds from the 2013 golf tournament will be formally presented at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Helathcareon Monday which will furhter support the organ donation awareness campaign. Through the efforts of the Funkenhauser's $23,000 has been raised in 2013 through the Day for a Life Golf Tournament and the inaugural Pass It On fashion show.
Following Trevor's passing in 2006, his organs were donated to save the lives of three people desperately needing an organ transplant. A Day for a Life Honouring Trevor Louis Funkenhauser is an annual golf tournament held in memory of their son and in celebration of the gift of life through organ donation and to raise money for this important cause.
