HDGH Welcomes New Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Nisar Huq Expands Hospital Expertise in Angioplasty Procedures
(Windsor, ON) – Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital is proud to introduce Dr. Nisar Huq as its third interventional cardiologist, expanding the team of doctors able to perform life-saving angioplasty procedures for patients in danger of cardiac arrest.
It’s a return home for Dr. Huq, who was born in Ottawa and studied in London, Ont., but has been working as an interventional cardiologist in Texas since 2006.
Dr. Huq joins Dr. Roland Mikhail and Dr. Amr Morsi to give HDGH three interventional cardiologists who can provide angioplasties, where a catheter containing a small balloon is inserted into arteries around the heart to compress blockages and restore blood flow.
The cardiac care team also includes exceptional work by Dr. Anthony Glanz and Dr. Syed Hussaini, who perform diagnostic catheterizations, and Dr. Abdul Jina to make a group of six cardiologists who provide high level cardiac patient care throughout our hospital.
“We are proud to be able to attract someone with Dr. Huq’s expertise and impressive credentials to our team,” said Dr. Gord Vail, HDGH’s Chief of Staff.
Before working in Texas, Dr. Huq worked in Michigan from 2001 to 2006. His post-graduate training includes an interventional fellowship from the University of Western Ontario in 1999, preceded by fellowship training at Ottawa Heart Institute and Montreal’s McGill University.
“I’m excited to join this incredible team here at HDGH and help provide more cardiac care to patients in southwestern Ontario,” said Dr. Huq. “It’s also great to be returning home to Ontario after several years away.”
Angioplasty procedures are also known as PCI, or percutaneous coronary intervention. The procedure is considered a less invasive one for patients suffering heart attacks versus other techniques, such as coronary bypass surgery.
The program at HDGH continues to operate on a weekday schedule from early morning until early evening. In August, the Ontario government announced its commitment to a major expansion at HDGH which will allow the space and resources required for 24-7 capacity for primary PCI (emergency angioplasty).
