Overview
Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital’s Mental Health Services provide acute mental health care for residents of Windsor and Essex County who are 16 years of age and older. Our services are focused on three main areas: crisis intervention, inpatient care and outpatient care. Windsor-Essex residents requiring acute inpatient mental health care receive treatment in specifically designed facilities at Hôtel-Dieu Grace.
Our Mental Health Services provides a caring treatment environment for individuals to accommodate all different stages of illness – those who require intensive treatment and focused care in a safe, highly secure area, and those who can be cared for in a less restrictive area where routine activities of daily living will help them return to the community.
Our mental health inpatient program includes the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and two General Psychiatric Units, located on the hospital’s third floor.
Outpatient mental health services are available in a clinical setting for individuals who are experiencing an acute psychiatric disorder not requiring admittance to the hospital’s inpatient program.
All of our mental health services adhere to our hospital’s core values of respect, compassion, teamwork and stewardship, and our hospital works closely with our community partners to ensure continuity of quality care for our clients in the community.
Our Care Providers
Our mental health care team is made up of highly-trained and qualified professionals devoted to helping meet our patient’s needs and treatment goals. The team includes: psychiatrists, hospitalists, nurses, emergency room physicians, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, mental health counsellors, medical residents & students and unit clerks.
Inpatient Services
HDGH inpatient mental health services stabilize and treat clients suffering from serious mental illness or acute psychiatric disorders. A multidisciplinary team provides active treatment for clients by developing and implementing individual treatment plans while working closely with community-based partners to ensure smooth transitions to post discharge care. Physician referrals are required for admission to inpatient care.
Outpatient Services
A variety of outpatient mental health programs and services are offered by Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital, during business hours Monday through Friday, in addition to the Community Crisis Centre that operates 24/7.
The Wellness Program provides time-limited, active treatment in a stable therapeutic setting, and is available for individuals 16 years of age and older who are seriously mentally ill or experiencing an acute psychiatric disorder not requiring 24-hour care. This service will allow some clients to receive appropriate treatment without inpatient admission, while clients moving from inpatient services will be supported in the transition towards a successful discharge. Referrals to the Wellness Program are received from the Inpatient Units, the Community Crisis Centre/Emergency Department and from Psychiatrists.
The Long Acting Injection/Clozapine Medication Clinic administers medications to chronically mentally ill individuals. Clients require a psychiatric referral to receive this service.
A Crisis Clinic receives referrals from the Emergency Department and primary care practitioners in the community for urgent psychiatric consultations and short-term service.
The Community Crisis Centre provides crisis response services to individuals 16 years of age and older who are experiencing an acute mental illness and/or a psychosocial crisis. Crisis intervention includes a 24 hour Crisis Telephone line at (519) 973-4435; 24 hour services in the Emergency Department at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital; Walk-In services in the Community Crisis Centre in the Jeanne Mance Building, 1st Floor Monday through Friday during business hours and Mobile Crisis Response, Monday through Friday, 7am – 11pm.
