The Neurosurgery Department at HDGH is one of only a handful of Ontario hospitals outside of teaching centres to offer advanced neurosurgical care. The well-developed tertiary program serves patients largely from the Windsor-Essex County and extends to Sarnia and Chatham, and as far as Northern Ontario.In 2008-2009, 2,273 neurosurgical procedures were performed.Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma service with approximately 50% of trauma admissions considered primarily neurosurgical.Neurosurgical procedures are performed in state-of-the-art Operating Room theatres, and the OR provides exceptional nursing care and a staff of dedicated OR nurses that shares an after-hours call system—a service unique to HDGH. The CSR provides an exemplary instrument processing system, separate and apart from all processing provided through the department.A 27-bed patient care area is devoted to neurosurgical patients, on the 8th floor of the hospital where highly skilled nursing staff provides outstanding care to our neurosurgical patients.
