We ask that you follow all instructions given by your physician as well as:
- Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before
- Do not wear any make-up, lotions, nail polish, or jewelry, and remove all body piercing's; if you cannot remove body piercing's your surgery may be cancelled
- Check with your doctor regarding prescription medications
Unless otherwise notified, you should continue to take all medications on the day of surgery as instructed by your physician or nurse. Leave ALL jewelry, including body piercing's, and large sums of money at home.
You MUST NOT DRIVE after receiving anaesthetic or sedation, so you must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you to and from the hospital, or have fare for a cab. Wear comfortable clothing.
If you are staying overnight, bring personal belongings (i.e. toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, razor), and remember that discharge time is between 10:00am and 11:00am.
When you arrive on the unit, you may be asked to wait in the waiting room before a nurse asks you to change into a hospital gown and housecoat (dentures, eye glasses, and other prosthesis will be removed prior to surgery). Your belongings will be stored after you sign a release.
A nurse will take your blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, and briefly review your previously taken medical history with you. If you have allergies or are currently experiencing any illness, let them know. If you are experiencing a fever and/or cold symptoms, you may be required to have your surgery rescheduled, depending on the severity.
A nurse may start an intravenous and/or give medication if required by your physician.
Sometimes, unavoidable delays in the operating room affect the surgery schedule. We appreciate your patience. |
