Preparing for your Surgery

We ask that you follow all instructions given by your physician and the nurse from the Pre Admission Clinic who interviewed you, as well as:

  • Do not eat or drink after midnight the night before
  • Wear comfortable clothing
  • Do not wear any make-up, lotions, nail polish, or jewelry, and remove all body piercings
  • Check with your doctor regarding prescription medications
Unless otherwise notified, you should continue to take all medications on the day of surgery as instructed by your physician or nurse. Leave ALL jewelry, including body piercings, and large sums of money at home.

Register with Admitting.

When you arrive on the unit, you may be asked to wait in the waiting room before a nurse takes your blood pressure, pulse and temperature, and briefly reviews your previously taken medical history with you. If you have allergies or are currently experiencing any illness, let them know. If you are experiencing a fever and/or cold symptoms, you may be required to have your surgery rescheduled, depending on the severity.

You will then be asked to change into a hospital gown, housecoat and dentures, eye glasses, and other prosthesis will be removed prior to surgery.

The nurse may start an intravenous and/or give medication if required by your physician.
Sometimes, unavoidable delays in the operating room affect the surgery schedule. We appreciate your patience.
