The primary role of Security at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital is to provide a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
The Security Department is staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week by a trained, uniformed guard force. The Security Office serves as the control and dispatch center and is located on the ground floor of the parking deck near the elevators. Security personnel man static posts in the Emergency Department and the Security Office while “rover guards” patrol the interior and hospital grounds.
Hospital security is also supplemented on weekends by Windsor Police Service who provide additional security in the E.R.
A number of security systems compliment the guard force and include a state of the art video system, door access controls and a personal alarm system.
Security also works in partnership with many municipal and provincial agencies responsible for enforcing various statutes and regulations.
Some of the services provided by security include:
- Conducting preventative patrols
- Monitoring C.C.T.V. camera system and door access
- Responding to all “Codes”
- Providing escorts for all after hour deliveries
- Responding to all calls for assistance, assessing response and recording occurrences
- Conducting daily “lockdowns and unlocks”
- Providing visitor and crowd control
- Parking enforcement and traffic control
- Conducting fire extinguisher and exterior lighting checks
- Enforcing hospital smoking policy
- Monitor and provide back-up for mobile hospital units including Community Crisis and Dialysis
- Monitor the Escort Personal Alarm System and dispatch security to respond to all alarms
