As an insured resident of Ontario, you will have the option of three types of accommodations: Standard, Semi-Private, and Private.
A standard room has four beds, and the cost is completely covered by OHIP. A Semi-Private is a two-bed room which may or may not be fully covered by extended health insurance (check your coverage). A limited number of Private rooms are also available if you have private coverage or are willing to pay extra.
Every effort will be made to provide your requested accommodation. If your choice is unavailable on admission, you will be notified when a suitable bed becomes vacant. The differential charge should be paid at the Business Office at the time of discharge. For your convenience, the hospital accepts cash, cheque, VISA, Master Card, American Express or debit.
If you have supplementary insurance (i.e. Green Shield, Blue Cross, London Life, etc.), the hospital can bill the company directly. Please be aware that supplementary insurance may not cover the entire cost of semi-private or private accommodations. It is the patient’s responsibility to find out what coverage they have.
