Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island
Through my experience this year with our Business Excellence Awards I had the pleasure of watching the talented Mr. Gordon Orr as the host and Master of Ceremonies. BK and I laughed a lot and I was inspired to find a way to work with him and maybe get to know him a bit more (as well as perhaps his organization). That’s the great thing about this community – there are always new and interesting individuals to meet and I was delighted to have found a new person to me - Gordon. Maybe some of you folks know this community leader already! If not Gordon is the face of our local tourism community and is a major community booster and supporter. It is obvious to me that we have a lot in common; that is our resolute belief in this community, region, and the resilience of our residents.
When I started to think about some ideas for my summer blog topics, I thought about the messages I’ve seen from Gordon and the TWEPI team. Like us, the tourism and hospitality industry in our community has been deeply affected by the pandemic, and also like us, the sector is beginning the long road back to a form of regular operations. It seems to me that our community and many of the tourism sector businesses have supported us over the past year and a half, and now we can pay it forward and perhaps support them in their recovery.
We approached Gordon to see if he would write a blog about the upcoming summer in our community and how we as a HDGH family can staycation in a fun, fabulous, and locally supportive way. He said yes! Each and every one of you deserve the very best summer ever! I personally am looking forward to family time, local produce, long slow lazy days floating on the lake with the shorties, and a traditional family BBQ at our home that we call “Weekend at Bernie’s.” As we now are finding some stability in our COVID response here in healthcare, I hope that July’s blog (courtesy of Gordon and team) will give you some ideas on how to celebrate, support, and proudly honour all things local and support the amazing selection of tourism assets right here in Windsor-Essex.
Happy Summer everyone. Be Safe. Be Smart. Be Local J
It’s safe to say that as the warmer weather approaches, many of us are looking forward to shedding ourselves of sweat pants and getting out of the house to safely explore our local restaurants, shopping districts, green spaces and attractions. What better way to kick off summer vacation than with a staycation right here in Windsor Essex and Pelee Island?
