Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) rate
According to Public Health Ontario, Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) are strains of Enterococcus faecalis that are resistant to the antibiotic vancomycin. The majority of people who acquire VRE are colinized with the organism in their large bowel and do not develop infection. However, patients who become colonized with VRE are at higher risk of developing VRE infection.
