Sheila Wisdom, Director
Sheila Wisdom has had a varied and fulsome career. In the private sector she was an owner of South Shore Books, in the public sector a member of Windsor City Council, and in the not-for-profit sector Executive Director of United Way/Centraide of Windsor-Essex County and the Windsor Symphony Orchestra (WSO).
As the Executive Director of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra (WSO she was responsible for the orchestra and also responsible for management of the Capitol Theatre, a cultural gem that, in her time on Council, Sheila and others successfully saved from the wrecking ball in the mid-1990s.
Prior to the WSO, Sheila was the Executive Director of United Way/Centraide of Windsor-Essex County and participated in the provincial implementation of 211, a phone information and referral service providing simplified access to information on community and social services.
As a member of Windsor City Council, she helped steward the transition of the Malden Landfill into Malden Park. Her work on Council involved being a member of many committees and Boards of Directors.
A graduate of the University of Windsor, Sheila has also received an Honourary Doctor of Laws, University of Windsor (2004), the University of Windsor Clark Award (2015), and the Women of Achievement Award, Windsor Women Working with Immigrant Women (2009).
Long-time residents of Windsor-Essex, Sheila and her husband Jerry have one adult son, Scott. A recent retiree, Sheila enjoys the additional time she now has for friends and family.
