Accreditation
HDGH is committed to continually improving our services; as such we voluntarily participate in an accreditation process with Accreditation Canada. There are a number of components to accreditation against which we measure our quality efforts, including standards and Required Organizational Practices. This process allows us to learn what we are doing well and where we can improve.
By having external surveyors assess our services against national standards, we are better able to focus our quality improvement efforts.
Everyone at HDGH is involved in accreditation, from frontline staff, to leadership, physicians, our Patient and Family Advisory Committee and our board members because we are committed to quality and patient safety.
Accreditation Canada recently conducted an on-site survey of our organization and we were Accredited with Exemplary Standing. This is the highest award given by Accreditation Canada. HDGH met 100% of the Required Organizational Practices as well as 98.99% of Accreditation Canada standards, the criteria and guidelines required to provide high-quality care and service.
The report highlighted the work that HDGH has done in a number of areas but identified the following as true strengths of the organization:
- Patient and Family Advisory Councils
- Unit Based Councils
- Performance Appraisals and Recognition Program
- Development of Brand Recognition and Reputation
We are very proud of everyone who works here and their commitment to quality improvement. The on-site survey was an excellent learning experience and highlighted the ways in which we can make our services better.
