Every May, National Nursing Week draws attention from around our nation as we celebrate the role and contributions nurses make to the well-being of Canadians. The recognition week brings attention to the profession and takes place during the birthday week of Florence Nightingale, who is considered the founder of modern nursing.
Today, Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH) hosted its 2026 Nursing Awards Ceremony that honoured HDGH Nurses with the Jeanne Mance Extraordinary Nursing Award and the Lori Dupont Bursary.
Winners of the Jeanne Mance Extraordinary Nursing Care Award, which recognizes HDGH nurses who continually go above and beyond to provide compassionate and professional care to patients and exemplify teamwork, compassion, stewardship, and respect, included:
- Sava Demic, RPN
- Melissa Robert, RPN
- Griffin Salaris, RPN
The 2026 recipients of the annual Lori Dupont Bursary are Marjaneh Abdollahpour Dilmani, RN and Shauna Carter, NP. This bursary will assist Marjaneh in pursuing studies in the Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOCC). Shauna will apply the bursary toward obtaining a Certificate in Mental Health and Addictions for Nurse Practitioners.
The Lori Dupont Bursary assists with continuing education costs. Each successful candidate is awarded up to $1,000.
“National Nursing Week’s theme, The Power of Nurses to Transform Health, is reflected every day in the work of our teams at HDGH,” says Shannon Landry, VP of Clinical Services, Restorative Care & Chief Nursing Executive. “Our nurses are leaders in innovation, compassionate care, and patient advocacy, and they play a vital role in shaping better health outcomes for our community. The recipients we celebrate today truly embody the power of nursing to transform lives.”
Congratulations to all our excellent RNs, RPNs and NPs across the Windsor-Essex hospital system!
